The Maine Blackfly Breeder's Association gathered early July 8, 2001 for a wonderful breakfast at the home of Jim and Cyene Wells to watch our "15 minutes of fame". Our Postcard from Maine celebrates the blackfly, whose yearly visits to the state in early summer have made an indelible impression on the people and the landscape. This week, Tim Sample takes us to Machias, Maine, headquarters of the Blackfly Breeders Association, a group that has taken the much-maligned blackfly under its wing. We'll find out about Blackfly Houses, and Swarm Domes, and about a certain Yankee spirit that refuses to simply sit and swat.
